Talent Management
Talent management has increasingly become a strategic conversation as organizations pursue growth and better performance. Talented employees are assumed to add high value to their organisations. Chief Executives look to their HR directors to report on the state of corporate talent and to put talent acquisition and retention strategies in place. But what is talent? Is talent in public service the same as talent in investment banking? How is talent identified and how fair and reliable are the performance appraisal processes? Are ‘talented’ people talented forever or is talent a temporary phenomenon? In this presentation, Dr Stephen Swailes of Hull University Business School will be exploring ideas about talent management and the tensions that can arise. Stephen teaches human resource management and has published widely on individual and team performance in the workplace.
